Take a Seat: Enjoy Our Updated Downtown Streetscape

The Business Improvement District #1 (BID #1) recently completed a project downtown. You may have noticed, while visiting downtown Fremont, that our benches and trash cans have been updated. We’ve also added new picnic tables to the streetscape. The new fixtures are finished in black to complement our historic downtown aesthetic and match our existing light poles.

There were 19 benches, 24 trash cans, and 5 new picnic tables installed. You’ll notice the back of the benches have been customized with text. Some of the benches say “Downtown Fremont” and the others have business names reflecting donors who donated in honor of current or past businesses. We are incredibly grateful to the local businesses whose generous donations made this project possible. Volunteers from the BID #1 consulted the relevant City departments on placement to ensure the fixtures were placed in areas that they would be best utilized.

This project was completed by the dedicated board members of the BID #1 who volunteer their time to ensure our downtown is improving. While this project is a bit more tangible, often their work goes unnoticed. The BID #1 takes on many projects that include beautification of the downtown district like the flower baskets, Christmas decorations, and improving our free parking lots. They also advocate on behalf of the district to the City, sponsor free and open to the public events that take place downtown, and address various concerns from area businesses and residents.

These improvements are part of our broader effort to curate a vibrant

downtown experience, pairing our historic charm with fresh touches like the new benches and the evolving installations of the Sculpture Walk Across Nebraska (through the Fremont Creative District). We’re building a space where art, history, and community can thrive together.

At MainStreet of Fremont we’re proud to partner with the BID #1 on many of our events and programs throughout the year. Their latest project is a great addition to our work to make our downtown a place that our community can come together. It makes the district look better and more accessible to visit. We hope these additions will encourage you to linger longer and enjoy our downtown environment. Come visit downtown Fremont soon to see the new fixtures, discover local shops here, and treat yourself to a meal or drinks while you’re here.
